5.0 out of 5 starsA great leash
Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2023
I use this leash to take my dogs out to potty, as 1 of them cannot be trusted without one and our yard is not fenced. I LOVE this leash for that purpose. She can get far enough away from me that she has privacy to do her business, while still allowing me to keep her contained. The leash itself holds up well to weight, my girl is 109 lbs and I have never felt like it was not sturdy enough to hold her. The only thing I do not like about the leash is the locking mechanism is a little weird. Most other leashes I have used like this you can push the button and hold it to lock it, and slide it to hold the lock at that length. This leash whenever you push the lock button it holds at that length and a button has to be pressed to release it again. Once I got used to it, it is fine, but it threw me off the first few times I used it. Overall, great leash and would 100% buy again if/when I need another one.

3.0 out of 5 starsGood leash for the price
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2023
PROS: sturdy and well made, great price, long, lightweight. The cord is surprisingly strong, as my dog likes to grab on to it and pull and it has shown no signs of fraying or tearing.
SO-SO: the locking mechanism took time getting used to, since pressing all the way down would lock and pressing half-way down would only stop the leash momentarily. After several months of daily use the push down lock mechanism stopped working, although pushing the button with your thumb continues to lock no problem. Secondly, the leash is supposedly designed to prevent the cord from twisting and getting stuck when retracting, but that's isn't the case. It happens pretty often.
CONS: the retracting mechanism is weak and sometimes because it doesn't retract fast enough I have to pull and retract (as of I was fishing) and sometimes have to grab the cord with my other hand to pull the dog (I've burned my hand once). So that part is annoying. Secondly, after months of use the mechanism stopped retracting fully, so I have almost 1.5ft of dangling cord left over.
Last update 3/31/22. Leash finally broke after 6 months. The internal plastic locking mechanism broke so it no longer extends. Only worth 6 months of daily walks.

Overall a decent leash for the price. A year duration would have been more acceptable.

Great handle design. The leash twists and is a little tough to get it to retract. It’s a great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Leash! Positive, Robust Locking Mech!
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2023

TL:DR;
Nice Leash! Positive, Robust Locking Mech! Good Feel, Nice Fit and Finish!

They all look the same don’t they?

Well, the main difference is in the locking mech. This one seems much more robust and functional.

I had purchased another brand (MK-DEF) and it “looks” identical at first glance like many of the countless others. It lasted many months, around 8-10? Not too bad really.

The lock finally failed and I purchased another of the same brand. This brand new one was inconsistent out of the box and would lock/not lock or get stuck/release fine and failed in a day, locking stuck in the retracted position!

This led me to this EC.TEAK product.

I am a Special FX Designer/Fabricator by trade. Look up the MK-DEF and compare the two button styles.

This EC.TEAK has a large, substantial button that sticks out and travels around a 1/2”, not a flush mounted “teeny tiny watch works scale” button.

That allows for a larger, stronger mech and greater travel and engagement into the locking teeth or detents. The lock release is another tall, easy to use and positive release design.

Also I noticed that the free play (slack/slop) of the lead when locked was greater. That is a good thing and leads me to believe the spacing and/or number of teeth are fewer which may equate to larger, stronger stops.

Think about it, you have a fixed volume to create a lock. You can choose fewer larger teeth or more, finer, weaker ones. Every time the teeth grind, they are getting damaged.

Too fine and it will tend to mis-engage easier and more often and are easier to damage. Fewer coarser teeth will be taller/deeper/stronger and tend to engage easier and be more resistant to damage.

Of course, all of this is just me speculating as I have not torn down either of the products to see what is inside and what actually failed.

More of a seat of the pants gut feeling based on fit, function and feel of the units. YMMV!

In closing, I have high hopes for a long service life from this EC.TEAK product. Time will tell!

5.0 out of 5 stars EC.TEAK Retractable Dog Leash 26 FT: Freedom Unleashed!
Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2024
Color: BlackPattern Name: 26 FT(66-110 LBS)Verified Purchase
Woof woof, fellow furry friends! Today, I'm here to share my paw-spective on the EC.TEAK Retractable Dog Leash, and let me tell you, it's like having a ticket to freedom on a stretchy, magical path!

First things first, the length of this leash is a doggy dream come true – a whopping 26 feet! It's like having my very own red carpet to explore the world. Whether I'm sniffing around the park or chasing my tail in the backyard, this leash gives me the freedom to roam, sniff, and be the adventurous pup I am.

The retractable feature is the real game-changer. With just a push of the button on my human's end, I get to decide how far I want to go. It's like having a personal assistant for my exploration missions. When I'm feeling a bit lazy, I can stay close; and when the world is calling my name, I can zoom to the end of the leash in a flash. It's all about doggy autonomy!

The handle is comfortable for my human, and that matters a lot because happy humans mean more treats for me! The ergonomic design makes it easy for them to hold, control, and maneuver, ensuring that our walks are enjoyable for both of us. A happy human equals a happy dog – it's a win-win!

The durability of this leash is another paw-sitive point. It's strong enough to handle my enthusiastic tugs and sudden bursts of energy. The tough material means I can pull and play to my heart's content without worrying about any mishaps. Safety first, right?

The reflective strip on the leash is a thoughtful touch. It adds an extra layer of visibility during those early morning or late-night walks. I appreciate anything that makes me more visible to others, ensuring that I can show off my charm even in the dark.

One tiny thing to note – my human says the locking mechanism is quite reliable. They can easily lock the leash at any length, giving them control in situations where I need to stay close. It's like having a built-in safety feature that keeps both of us secure during our adventures.

In conclusion, the EC.TEAK Retractable Dog Leash 26 FT is a leash made for adventurous pups like me. The length, the retractable feature, and the overall design make it a paw-some accessory for our walks. If you're a dog who loves to explore, sniff, and enjoy a bit of freedom, I highly recommend this leash. It's a game-changer for both dogs and their humans! Woof woof!

5.0 out of 5 stars It'll wear out, but not because the leash frays
Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2022

I have been using this for over two years with a very active border collie mix, in an area with strict leash regulations. We play flyball for at least an hour each day, and the 26-foot length of this retractible leash is the longest I've been able to find. After two years the reel retracts with about 90% original strength, which is plenty. The leash itself shows only slight wear, which is remarkable after many thousands of rapid extensions and returns. I believe this is because it is made of a fiber that is inherently harder than the plastic casing. As you can see in the attached photo, the handle's casing is what eventually wears out, at the opening where the leash extends and retracts. The edge of the leash is like a saw that cuts through the casing. As any fan of the Mohs hardness scale knows, you must make a choice when two materials come in frequent contact: the one that is harder than the other will wear through the other. Given the choice, I will take this result any day over the alternative, which would be me holding an intact handle and my dog running around with a worn-out section of leash. Today I am replacing my first copy of this great product with another one just like it. This is only because the leash now gets stuck in the crevice it has worn, stopping the fun with my dog. I want to emphasize that my dog's play style is an absolute outlier as a stress test for this leash, and if you are just going to walk around with your dog on the other end, it should serve you well for many years.

4.0 out of 5 stars It’s comfortable and very easy to lock, but at times not so easy to unlock.
Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2020
Verified Purchase
It’s a good leash for it’s price, but all too often the lock mechanism will jam and you need to use both hands to unlock it. It’s light and very comfortable in the hand even for the largest size (26 ft/125 lbs), and it may be a quite acceptable for a well trained walker but we have a puppy and she requires intermittent corse corrections. It’s very easy to lock, but not so easy to unlock at times. If you press down and back lightly with your thumb it locks instantly, 100% of the time. It just requires a moment’s touch for it to stay locked. If you like the length and want it to stay locked you can your just relax your hand around the comfortable grip for as long as you like. The operation so far is very polished but at some point you will want to unlock it and this is when it can be problematic. To unlock it you push your thumb forward and the lock will release if there is sufficient tension on the tensioning mechanism. But if the lease is slack, like you want it to be after correcting the dogs course, the lock remains engaged no matter how much you fiddle with the buttons. To disengage the lock you need grab the lease with your free hand and take up the slack while pushing forward on the thumb control. (You could wait until your dog starts to put tension on the leash but of course that is often the time you want it locked) You can avoid this to a certain extent by applying a temporary brake by pushing forward on the thumb control which is counterintuitively the same motion to release it. Disengaging the break by relaxing your thumb works, usually. Holding the front button down to maintain the temporary brake is not as effortless as engaging the lock and it can get tiring, so you tend to engage the lock more than you normally would like which leads back to the problem you were trying to avoid. Even when you hold on to the temporary brake it on occasion will remained locked. This seems to happen when, for whatever reason, the thin lease itself gets stuck in the eye of the retracting mechanism. It’s easy to unjam it but again it takes 2 hands.

So if you tend to walk your dog with the leash locked or your dog is a good walker and can be walked with the leash unlocked, this lease at $18 is good deal. If want to “loose-lead” train your puppy this is not the right lease. I’ll spend more and get a smoother operating lease which likely will be larger and heavier. I’ll hold on to this one until, with any luck, our older and wiser “puppy” will be such a good walker, that we can take advantage of its lightness and comfort.
